Our Story

For over 10 years, The Chocolate Kiss Cafe has been offering lovely cakes and great food in a friendly setting, perfect for families and barkada get-togethers.

The UP Diliman branch has become part of the lives and memories of many regular diners.

The beginnings

The story of The Chocolate Kiss Cafe as it is today started long before the restaurant space, at the then newly-constructed Ang Bahay ng Alumni, was offered to Maline Flores.

Maline has been baking cakes and cookies from her home kitchen for the longest time: for her kids' birthday parties when they were growing up, for her husbands' officemates, for neighbors, for friends, for friends' friends.

Back then, it was "The Chocolate Kiss Homebaked Delights". It was a hobby for the most part, but also a modest family business, especially come Christmas time.

Christmas, you see, is when her home kitchen transforms into Santa's little workshop and everyone pitches in to take down orders, run to the store, bake, package, and deliver these Holiday goodies.

The big leap

Running a small cafe was always a dream. But the space being offered was too big to just serve cakes, pastries, and coffee.

A family meeting was in order. All favorite dishes, desserts and dinning places were brought to the table. After all, this was a family who loved eating and eating out.

Having the restaurant in UP made the decision easier. Being an UP Alumna, it was an opportunity to give something back to the UP community: good food and good service, at a teacher-/student-friendly price.

And so, January 1997, The Chocolate Kiss Cafe finally opened.

Today

The cafe has since expanded to three branches, each with its own charm.

UP Kiss Cafe, 2nd floor--the original cafe--overlooks the UP track and field oval. It seats up to 90 persons. Serves lunch, merienda and dinner Mondays to Saturdays. Live music awaits diners three nights a week.

UP Kiss Cafe, Ground floor--the younger, smaller cafe--seats up to 50 persons. It opens for early-folks and breakfast meetings; up to afternoon merienda. Tables with umbrellas are lined up outside the main dining room for those who prefer their meals al fresco.

Our newest branch at Roces Avenue opened July, 2005. It introduces a young and fresh touch to the Chocolate Kiss.
